No Chomp-Indoor Protective Wood Coating...Deters cribbing and chewing

No Chomp by Vagabond Oil & Paint, Co. is a specially formulated indoor protective wood coating designed to deter destructive cribbing and chewing behavior from horses, pets and other farm animals.

It provides a beautiful protective finish for indoor unpainted wood such as barns, animal stalls, and furniture.

No Chomp tastes terrible to discourage unwanted damage to wood but is safe and non-toxic.

Ingredients

We believe in complete transparency.  There are no "secret ingredients" in No Chomp.  In fact, no chomp contains only three ingredients:

1. Pure Tung Oil - 100% natural drying oil approved by the FDA  for incidental food contact.
2. Bittering Agent - Denatonium Benzoate.  This is the same ingredient used to deter children from chewing on things that might be hazardous to them.
3. Cinnamon Oil - Spicy oil is unpalatable to many species.

Animals

Horses - Cribbing, also known as crib-biting, is a behavioral issue observed in horses where they grasp an object with their teeth, arch their neck and swallow air.  This repetitive action is often categorized as a stereotypical behavior, similar to compulsive behaviors in humans.  Cribbing is commonly thought to be linked to boredom, stress, or lack of social interaction.  Horses may start cribbing when  confined tin stalls for long periods or when they lack sufficient physical and mental stimulation. The act of cribbing releases endorphins making it a self-rewarding behavior that can be difficult to stop once it has started.

Cribbing poses several health risks to horses and can be problematic for their owners  The physical act of cribbing can lead to dental issues, such as excessive wear on the teeth and can contribute to other health problems like colic due to the intake of air.  Cribbing horses often have difficulty maintaining proper body weight, as the behavior can interfere with their eating habits.  Additionally, cribbing can cause significant damage to the stable environment, including fences, doors and other wooden structures. For owners this leads to significantly increased maintenance and repair costs.

Although cribbing is unique to horses, other animals can cause significant damage to wood:

Goats - Often chew on wood to wear down their ever-growing teeth and to express their curiosity and explore their environment.

Rabbits - Rabbits teeth never stop growing so chewing on wood is an important behavior that helps them ware down their teeth and keep them healthy.  They also chew wood to create nesting material and out of boredom and to explore their environment.  It is important that domestic or farmed rabbits are provided with wooden chew toys, but No Chomp can be applied to wooden cages or hutches to protect your rabbits home.

Dogs - Many breeds of dogs, especially puppies, are known for their strong chewing instincts.  Dogs are known to damage furniture, doors, baseboards, fencing, and even window sills when they display destructive chewing behaviors.

Pests - Raccoons, squirrels and porcupines are just some of the pests that will destroy wood, usually in an effort to gain access to indoor spaces like attics and crawl spaces.  One taste of No Chomp can make them think twice about making a home in your barn, house or outbuildings.

Finish

The main ingredient in No Chomp is Tung Oil, a 100% natural premium drying oil.  This is the same product used to protect teak decking on sail boats.  It gives a beautiful mostly transparent satin sheen to your wood.

Coverage

Coverage will depend on how porous the wood is that you are treating.  Below are general recommendations for a single coat.  For more protection, you can apply up to five coatings, allowing 12-24 hours for the oil to dry between applications.

Half Gallon - 200 square feet
One Gallon - 400 square feet
Five Gallons - 2,000 square feet

Usage

No Chomp is most effective on indoor wood surfaces.  It will work on outdoor wood surfaces, however repeated exposure to rain or snow will reduce the effectiveness of the chewing and cribbing deterrence.  Additional coats can be applied to refresh the effectiveness after a period of rain.  The tung oil will remain long after the unpleasant taste has washed away and continue to provide a beautiful, durable and natural finish for your wood.
